Know you want to spend time on the water, but are not sure where to start? There are lots of things to do on Cape Cod that involve the mesmerizing seascape. Plan your activities around your availability and interests. These top 7 water activities on Cape Cod will get you started by creating unforgettable moments.
Rent a Kayak or Paddleboard
North Chatham Outfitters is happy to supply you with a kayak or paddleboard to explore the Cape. Rentals start for 24 hours and can go up to a week at a time. A lifejacket and paddle are included. It’s a great way to get some sunshine on the sea.
Go Fishing
With Abdow’s Magic Charters, Captain Mike takes you out to where the fish are plentiful. Depending on what species you are looking to hook, charters ride out up to 30 minutes away. Only high-quality tackle and bait are used as well as Penn rods and Shimano reels for the finest fishing experience. June through mid-October offers the best Bluefin Tuna fishing.
Whale Watching
For June, July, and August only, Dolphin Fleet Whale Watch offers sunset whale watching tours. They are the only company on the Cape that offers a sunset tour. Each tour is around 3-4 hours and includes ample seating, a galley with refreshments and snacks, and a heated and air-conditioned main cabin.
Sail the Cape
Enjoy a private sailing charter or sunset charter with Cape Sail. There is a 2-hour minimum sailing time, with up to overnight trips that sail to Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard, and other treasures off the beaten path. You can also learn basic sailing skills with private lessons! Most students can set sail facing moderate conditions after about 6 hours of instruction.
Take a Seal Tour
If you’d like to see more of Chatham Habor, Beachcomber Boat Tours offers a seal-watching tour. It’s a boat ride between North Beach, Chatham Light, and the Break. You will be transported to the boat docking zone via a trolley. Don’t forget to bring your camera and sunscreen on this tour!
Parasail or Jet Ski
Craving something a little more fast-paced to get your heart pumping? Dennis Parasail & Jet Ski knows just what to do. Jet skis leave Sesuit Harbor and ride about a mile out to give you plenty of space to ride around. Get up to 50 mph! Parasailing offers a fun and unique adventure on the water, unlike anything else you’ve probably experienced.
A Trip to the Beach
You don’t have to be on a boat to enjoy the water! Chatham Lighthouse beach is a great stop for those who prefer to slow down and simply walk the beach. Marvel at the scenery, search for shells, and you might spot a seal. Bring a picnic lunch if you plan to stay a while and walk a few miles on the shore.
Need a Break?
Sometimes it’s necessary to take a few moments to relax between activities. That’s why high tea is served daily at the Captain’s House Inn between noon and 3:00 pm. Tasty morsels including finger sandwiches, scones, pastries, and cakes are served on a tiered platter. Peak out into the English gardens from the dining room or savor high tea amongst the flowers.
